Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of communities. Many who've never been aware of it frequently think it is a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is frequently called her birthplace. But she only was there for a brief period of time. Brugel grew to be a young woman in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. The first goal she had was to be an actor, However, following a dramatic growth spurt her partners were no longer able to dance with her. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. After I surpassed my male counterparts, that's when I gave up. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's case it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school which pushed her in the right direction. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the school's annual production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the principal part in Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. In the 20+ years since Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across both small and large screens, attracting the greatest interest when she was offered the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian cast member in Season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
